You can only imagine Cézanne's delight in stumbling across Aix. With its wonderful natural light and rich provençal hues it's any artist's dream come true. Long summers and a mere thirty-minute stretch to the Mediterranean means Aix has little trouble working its charm on present-day visitors too. Over the course of the centuries little has changed though. Water still gurgles from old stone fountains, cars still rattle down the narrow, cobbled streets, and garlic still roasts in the sun at the colourful daily markets. Many would say this is France at its best - we'll just use the word sumptuous and leave it at that… Plus points: Fascinating history & art
Warm climate year-round
Proximity to south coast
Famous hot springs
Delicious provençal cuisine
French General Course
These courses are for adults who need to express themselves with the greatest possible fluency, whether for leisure or professional purposes. Based on a communicative method, the programme covers discussions, role plays, shoert talks, written expression, essays and suggested dialogues in which grammar is practised. For all levels, although beginners can only start on certain dates. One week group courses are not available: for one-week courses, we recommend our Individual courses.
Founded some 30 years ago, the school is located in a charming turn of the century building, just a few minutes' walk from the city centre. On one side it looks onto a magnificent tree-lined boulevard and on the other, onto lovely green gardens. The building consists of 15 classrooms, a multi media room, a lounge area and library, the latter looking out onto a sunny open-air terrace. And whether you're here for personal or business reasons, the professional yet friendly attitude of the school will ensure rapid results as well as a fun and social environment in which to learn the language. Out and About You don't even have to plan your route round Aix. The Circuit de Cézanne will have you tracing the artist's footsteps and visiting all the best-known places in Aix simply by following the signs. When it comes to music Aix seems to be in a realm of its own. July sees two big events, the Jazz Festival and the Festival Provençal d'Aix, an exquisite show of ballet and classical opera. Slightly more intriguing is the Tambourine Festival in April. But no matter when you come, make time to indulge in the spécialités provençales in the many open-air cafés and wonderful gourmet restaurants.
